Haloween is right around the corner and that means pumpking picking, hauntings, and costumes. Thankfully we have compiled all of the Haloween-style events happening in Central Washington in 2018. Enjoy!

This event is held every Saturday and Sunday in October from 10am to 4pm. At the Huffman Farm in Ellensburg, guests can choose their own perfect carving pumpkin straight from the vine.

Haunted Forest and Corn Maze
October 12th through 27th
Enter the haunted forest if you dare! This event is designed to scare you. Guests will enter the haunted forest where they will be met with jump scares, scary images, carnage, and more! This event is recommended for people 10 years old and older. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight to get from the parking lot to the Silo Cafe where they will buy their tickets.
Tickets will be sold until 9:45pm for $10 for children aged 12 years old and younger. Anyone over 12 years old can purchase a ticket for $12.
You will then be handed a lantern and enter the forest. Once you exit the forest, if you don't have to change your pants, you can hang out with the other survivors by our fire pit and make s'mores.

"Flocktober" and "Mill-o-ween"
This event is fun for the whole family and is held from 10am through 2pm. There is a pet costume contest happening at noon where the best dressed pets and owners will be awarded a prize for first and second place. Last weekend was the start of the annual Suncadia Harvest Festival and what a wonderful weekend it was! The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and the harvest festival was in full swing.
Events and Activities
There is fun available for the entire family, although most of the activities are for children. To the right of the enterence there was a hay maze and pyramid where kids could climb to the top of the hay pyramid, slide down to enter the maze, and run around until they found the exit. Parents or guardians could keep a watchful eye from the sidelines all the while and signs were posted encouraging children to not climb on top of the maze.
Beyond the maze there was pumpkin picking where children could look for their perfect pumpkin. Pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colors were strewn about so that the children were not limited on choices.
To the left of the enterence there were carriage rides, pony rides, and a petting zoo. Guests could get up close and personal with goats, sheep, and other farm animals. They could also take a small stroll on a pony or explore the beautiful Suncadia Resort property with a carriage ride. However, if you bring your dog, you will be asked to stay at least twenty feet away from the farm animals so that they will not get spooked.
An activity that is fun for children and adults alike is Pumpkin Archery. Participants are given a brief safety lesson on how to use a bow and arrow and when to retrieve arrows and when NOT to retrieve arrows. A worker nearby is watching and ready to help if the kids need more guidance. Bows differ in pull strength so that anyone can have fun with this activity.
In the middle of the festival there is live music provided by Chinook Entertainment from 10-11:30am, 12:30-2pm, and 3:30-5pm. When live music is not playing there is a dance instructor teaching basic dance moves to the guests.
For the adults, there are tastings from 2-4pm. This year they had beverages from Dru Bru Brewing Co., Bad Grany Cider, Heritage Distilling Co., and Browne Family Vinyards. Adults can choose to buy 4 tastings for $8 or 10 tastings for $15.
Behind the pumpkin picking there are a row of food stands available.
There is a tamales stand that must have been amazing because they were sold out by the time I got there at 1pm.
There was a hot dog and chips stand where guests could purchase good-sized hot dogs for $5 and a bag of chips for $1.
There was a snow cone stand to get beautiful rainbow ice delights for $5.
There was also a coffee stand where you could warm up with a cup o' joe or re-energize with a Red Bull drink.
Suncadia Dining was also available by the live entertainment where you could get a variety of other options like burgers, salads, and fries.
For dessert you can get your classic cotton candy, or you can get some homemade mini doughnuts and decorate them with a variety of syrups and sprinkles.
To the right of the enterence there are a row of shopping booths. These booths sell:
homemade Christmas ornaments
knitted and croquet accessories
home furnishings made out of wine barrels
In front of the enterence to the live music there is a booth where children can create their own headband unicorn horns. This was adorable; there were little unicorns running around everywhere.
There are more shopping booths to the left of the live music. These booths have:
a face painting stand
henna tattoo stand
bath and shower soaps
art from local artists, and more!
Here are a few of my final thoughts after attending the 2018 Suncadia Harvest Festival.
If you are not familiar with the Suncadia Resort, look up directions to the Harvest Festival. My husband and I assumed that there would be clear signs leading us to the Harvest Festival and there were small signs with unclear arrows pointing forward. We could not tell when we were supposed to turn and ended up pulling into a parking lot to look up directions.
You are able to bring dogs as long as they are leashed at all times. I would recommend bringing a water dish and food dish if you plan on spending a couple hours there since there were no water dishes available for pets.
Most of the activities are for children so if you have kids, they will have a ball at this festival!
More information about the Suncadia Harvest Festival is available here and here.
Everyone put on your scarves and pick up the nearest pumpkin because fall is upon us! You know what that means: pumpkin picking, spiced lattes, corn mazes, scary movies, ghosts and goblins, harvest festivals, and the big dirty run. Wait, what were the last two?Harvest Festival and the Big Dirty Run?These are two great events happening in October at the Suncadia Resort!
Suncadia Resort has hosted a Harvest Festival at Nelson Farm for thirteen years! This event lasts goes on for two weekends in October and is a celebration of everything fall. They have a corn maze, pumpkin picking, crafts, a petting zoo, pony rides, fall sports, food trucks, face painting, and live music. Kids and kids-at-heart will both enjoy the fun-filled days at the Harvest Festival!
Big Dirty Run
Suncadia also hosts the Big Dirty Run, happening this year on Sunday, October 14th. This is not your traditional 5K run. Runners will have to run, walk, crawl, and climb to get through their course, which goes through the messy and muddy back trails of Suncadia’s Nelson Preserve neighborhood. This is definitely not a run for the neat-freaks as participants are known to finish the run absolutely covered in mud. Once you cross the finish line, you’ll be rewarded with an ice-cold glass of beer (or root beer for those under 21). Tickets are available now on the Suncadia Resort website.

Suncadia Resort features three golf courses which are spread out over 6,400 acres of property. Two of these courses are available to the public.
Prospector Golf Course
Prospector Golf Course first opened in 2005 and was designed by the Arnold Palmer Course Design Company. This 18-hole, 7,100-yard course offers stunning views of the surrounding forest, rolling fairways, and medium-sized greens. While this course is fine for players of all skill level, more experienced golfers will appreciate the water features and bunkered fairways found on the green. The course is open from April 9 to October 31. Times can vary based on the season, so be sure to look ahead to book your tee time!
Rope Rider Golf
The Rope Rider Golf Course is newer than the Prospector Golf Course, having opened in the summer of 2011. In its first year, it was named the Best New Course of the Year by Golf Magazine. It is located along the site of the historic Roslyn Mines and Tipple Hill, making it a challenging course. If you’re traveling with your family, this is the best course to visit. There are youth tees on every hole, and shorter three and six-hole loops. This course is open seven days a week from April 9 until October 9.
If you’d like to enjoy a quick game, stop by the Rope Rider Golf Park. This par-three course is adjacent to Swiftwater Cellars Winery and totally free!
